Our October community member of the month has been confirmed and is the wonderful Monet Wright.
"I got into technology after losing my job during the pandemic, I finally had time to dedicate to my passions! I signed up for a Full Stack Developer Bootcamp via Udemy and loved every moment of it.
I began teaching myself how to code. No degrees over here-just certifications!!
After finishing the Bootcamp, it was hard to land a role as a Full Stack Developer, even a Junior Developer. Companies we unwilling to train and felt I needed more hands-on, real-life experience. I didn't let that defeat me, I actively listened during interviews, learned what questions to ask, how best to present myself, and built long-term relationships.
It took me over a year to land my current role. It was a year filled with putting myself out there, sliding to recruiters DM's, rebranding my online presence, and focusing on what was important to me in my next role. Then I found Goodfynd (the premier marketplace for all things food truck-related). After an interview with the CEO, Sofiat Abdul, who is also a Black Women, I knew choosing Goodfynd was going to be one of the best decisions I've ever made for myself and my career.
During the interview, my CEO told me, "Don't ever give up on your dreams! If you want to be a Developer, we'll help you with that!" That would be my biggest career accomplishment, going from working long and stressful hours in a high-volume chat center to helping a startup build their customer success team from the ground up and still able to focus on my coding passions!
I am currently the Senior Customer Success Manager at Goodfynd and love every moment of it as there is always a challenge that keeps me engaged and on my toes. I also make contributions to the Dev, Design, and Sales teams! My biggest personal accomplishment would be teaching myself how to code. Selfstudy is a true confidence booster and teaches you to trust yourself."
If I could give some advice to my younger self, it would be to:
"Follow your dreams & passions, regardless of what others may say is impossible or not profitable. Abundance is your birthright! And, always do what is hard because then, your life will be easy!"
